I'm thinking of making a full-length stop motion film.
Please note that this idea is copyrighted by Romulus Pictures. (www.RomulusPictures.com, site under construction.)
Please tell me what you think, feel free to tell me it's not very good.

'The Hallow'een Spirit is rather cross with those who aren't faithful to him. If you've bought a ready-made jack-o-lantern, or cheap, tasteless chocolate, BEWARE!
A band of children, complete with scary costumes, must go beyond the grave and convince the Hallow'een Spirit that turning all the adults into zombies is not a very nice thing to do.'

Yeah it sounds good to me.
I'm not really into Halloween but it does sound good.
Hope to see it when it is finished. ;)
If it all works out. :)

just saying "copyright" doesnt mean it is

Mark the shark Posted: May 7th 2008

Cool! ;)

PoisonIvy Posted: May 8th 2008

In reply to jordan, I'm perfectly aware of his comment. Please don't copy it but, or I'll be vewy vewy cwoss!

(For those who did not realise it, that was a joke)

Yeah, I like the idea. It'd be funny, though, not scary. But I need more plasticine and I need to make sets and I need a better program than Windows Movie Maker, in which I can only do eight frames per second.

It'd need to be about an hour long at least, so at thirty frames per second that's about 108,000 frames. If I can take five hundred frames a day on average, that's 216 days.
Whew!

But I already have ideas for characters and scenes and things, so I want to go ahead with it. It may be finished in a year or two!
:D

PoisonIvy Posted: May 9th 2008

Haha, it certainly will be wicked, if I make it.

I would say go for it. Although do keep in mind making a feature-film entirely in stop-motion is an incredible feat, and can be quite expensive for an individual.
StreetCop (one of the films B&B Studios is working on) is going to be a feature-film, so far we're estimating will take about a total of about 4 and 1/2 years to complete, and will cost a few million dollars.
Also it takes a lot more than the idea of a few characters and some scenes to make a decent feature-film. I was working on the concept of StreetCop for about a year before I decided to go ahead and make it.
That is the main problem of feature-films is that there is so much time you have to fill will plots and backgrounds of each character's life.

P.S. the idea of a Hollow'een stop-motion film is definitely getting close to the concept of 'Nightmare Before Christmas'.
P.S.S. it isn't a good idea to film at a steady rate of 30fps, 30fps is more for running and fast-paced bits. I would suggest going for about 24-25fps for walking and normal movement then bump it up to 30fps for running and such.

arthur 2 Posted: May 10th 2008

yeah b&b studios has a point you just wouldn't be able to do it all thank fully my animation was only 30secs long

B&B Studios Posted: May 11th 2008

Oh yeah I forgot to add something. Well maybe I wont say it because someone might be offended or disapprove of God stuff.
But I will say this, "Life is like a box of chocolates...you never know whatcha gonna get."

curt t1 Posted: May 12th 2008

well said.

PoisonIvy Posted: May 13th 2008

"My mother always said Life was like a box of chocolates. You jus' never know whatchou're gonna get."

Okay, I'll just say one thing - two things - three things - I know it'll take a few years. I thought of the idea about a year ago or more. And... a few MILLION?

PoisonIvy Posted: May 13th 2008

Anyway, I'm working on another Thingummy film, this time with proper sets if I can get some materials. It's called Thingummy and the Shape-Changing Blob. It's in a few parts, each a minute or two long. (With titles.)
I've already written the script for part one, I've just got to make the sets and then go for it. However:::
How can I make a scene in which it is raining?

Anyway, a short synopsis:

It's storming. It's raining. There's something on the loose...
Thingummy and the Big Black Blob join forces and do battle with the deadly Shape-Changing Blob.

I'm going for a four out of six for this one.

:D

PoisonIvy Posted: May 13th 2008

That is, 'my momma'.
Anyway, B&B studios, I haven't even SEEN Nightmare before Christmas.

PoisonIvy Posted: May 13th 2008

And what _were_ you going to say?

B&B Studios Posted: May 23rd 2008

Sorry I haven't replied in awhile, I've been busy with production (mainly attempting to get permission from Three Days Grace to use some of their songs) .

For StreetCop it'll be about a few million, because it is a large-scale feature-film that is set in New York City, which means a lot of different sets and other stand-ins. Also when you add up the cost for plasticine, foam latex, and materials for molds and sets, it adds up quite fast.

I would say for a independent feature-film the main cost you will find are for plasticine, armature wire, video editing, recording, frame capture, and a ton of other programs, and set materials.

As for the raining scene, what you can always do is find a program (such as Swirls Water Reflections) or another graphics design program, and add the rain with that.
Ah, throughout this post I've had to remind myself that most people here are early teens, and probably don't have the money for high-quality software, or other expensive things like that. I'm so used to talking with other pro animators such as Nick Hilligoss, or Mike Brent, who have the money for $1200 software and often spend a few thousand of characters.

What I was going to say before was, if God wants you to make this film and get high marks for it, then it will happen. But if He doesn't feel this is the proper way to spend you time, then it may turn out to be a dud or you may not have the time and put it off.
