I was recently assigned a research project for school and I chose the topic of clay animation. I was wondering if the creators could help me out and give me inside information from the movies to answer these questions:
. What do the directors of the films do if there are no actors?
. What was the inspiration and evolution of Wallace and Gromit?
. What are the stages of a clay animation film?
. How are the actors/actresses voices synchronized with a clay figures mouth?
Thank you so much for your time, any information is helpful.

I can't help you with your questions, but I'd like to welcome you to the website at least! :) I bet someone here will have the answers you need.

Q1: Find the actors!

Q2: The inspiration for Wallace was mainly based on Nick Park's father (who liked inventing things in his free time)! However, Nick does not know where he got the inspiration for Gromit!

Q3: Story writing and sketches come first! Then story boarding, script writing and the finding of the actors! Third is model and set building! Finally, animating the film and then editing it!

Q4: The script is voiced by the actor and then, using replacement mouths, the actions are animated in-to-sync with the voice!

Hope this helps!

Yours sincerely,
