I bring great news for collectors of the Robert Harrop Wallace and Gromit range – and terrible news for their pockets!

The @Bristol ‘Animate It’ shop has unveiled possibly one of the most collectable pieces of Wallace and Gromit memorabilia that hasn’t played some part in a film and hasn’t come from the hand of Nick Park.

The beautiful bronze statue of Wallace and Gromit on the moon, the same design as the Harrop ‘Grand Day Out’ figurines, has been cast by the Lunts Fine Art Foundry and celebrates the duo’s 20th Birthday – and as such comes in a worldwide limited edition of 20.

Understandably therefore the price point is much higher than most pieces – it weighs in at £750. Reservations are taken on a strictly first come first serve basis, and you’ll need to contact Robert Harrop Designs on 01952 884804 or email sales@robertharrop.com fairly soon to get on the list!

Let us know if you’re planning on getting one as it would be really interesting to hear where those 20 lucky people are. Your thoughts on such a limited piece? Leave a comment below! ?

Wow looks brill

Gromits little bro Posted: Nov 25th 2009

To be honest they don't look that good for the money although they are very detailed. It's like making a model of the rainbow in bronze- you need colour.

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 25th 2009

While I know what you mean about the colour GLB, having seen it in person I think the effect of the Bronze makes up for it.

I hope to have better photos soon, but I could only take one on my camera phone through glass so the quality isn't great.

I think the face is the part that could lose the effect most, but in person I firmly believe it doesn't.

It's a lot of money, but as an investment it's wise because this is bound to be worth more in the future.

:O

I so want that ! To bad I have 50p to my name. :-(

Gromits little bro Posted: Nov 25th 2009

that's fair enough seb, they probably are great in person and the craftsmanship that must have gone into each of those twenty is astonishing. They truly do provide quality although i am still a sceptic :L

shaun the lamb Posted: Nov 25th 2009

Woah-oah-oah shiney!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me want-a da shiney!!!!!!

harryboy8080 Posted: Nov 26th 2009

who don't want-a da shiney!

jordan Posted: Nov 26th 2009

couldy buy a car for that.......dont look to nice anyway

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 26th 2009

You could buy a car - but then which one will hold its value best?

With clearer pictures I hope people will be able to better experience what the figures are like in person.

SockEyeSalmon Posted: Nov 26th 2009

It looks like it's made of toffee...

Jordan :O I thought you'd be prepared to moonlight by packing bags at Sainsbugs for a year to earn enough money to buy one of these rarities!

Seb's right - imagine the Antiques Roadshow in 30 years time...

If Preston Train Station is still set on a W&G statue, Richard Harrop would be my choice of sculptor, that's for sure!

Fish Posted: Nov 27th 2009

SockEye - you're right - it looks like it's made of toffee! :D

I can hear the Antiques Roadshow appraiser now "AH! Did you know only 20 copies of this amazing statue were made - and only 15 of them are accounted for in the 22nd Century? And way back in 2009 no one knew there really was a cooker on the moon ." 8)

Ursrut Posted: Nov 27th 2009

he he fish!
I think it looks more like chocolate personally, very expensive chocolate at that.
I think it will be well worth the buy for whoever gets it and very lucky them at that!

crackin cheese Posted: Nov 27th 2009

I think it's very finally crafted and that if you saw it in person it would be amazing

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Yes - with the light on Gromit he looks toffee, but with more normal lighting on Wallace he looks like chocolate!

Maybe they need a warning on the packet? 'Do not consume'!

Question is - will Nick Park be getting one?

crackin cheese Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Maybe he got sent one as a complementry gift???????

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 27th 2009

He probably would with normal figurines, especially as his input was very important to their design, but with only 20 being made...?

crackin cheese Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Hmmm....... Your probably right Seb but I suppose he went to see them ??????

SockEyeSalmon Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Hello, Fish, old pal! How are you and how's Ralphie doing? Many thanks for your prayers whilst I was ill - they helped me a great deal! 0:)

Ursrut, my other old pal, you are right about our chums looking like expensive chocolate from a different light - Belgian or Swiss? Chocolate and toffee - a delicious combination!

I agree with you, crackin cheese - I'd imagine the ANP would have a complimentary one, but where would he put it in his house? I've already ruled out the kitchen because, I suspect, Mark Kermode interviewed the ANP in his kitchen (re BBC Two's The Culture Show) ... when TV interviews are done in anyone's house, I turn into a 'nosey parker' and look at the furniture. That was some AGA range he had in his kitchen (or was it a Rayburn or Waterford Stanley?) . They heat up the house and cook some cracking dinners. Also, you could put a clothes on a clothes horse in front of it to air naturally - instead of those noisy, irritating tumble dryers.

jordan Posted: Nov 27th 2009

i thought they looked like caramel lol, i dont like that marble base either.

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Yes, was the Culture Show filmed in his house? Maybe an Aardman staff member could shed light on that?! I've had a good look there too, it's not as lively as you might expect his house to be (his office is full of stuff!) but:

a) He probably wouldn't be there much
b) It looked like some bits were not finished - a recent move?
c) Maybe it's just a huge mansion and those are rooms he doesn't use much! :D

I'm sure he'll find somewhere for them! Myself I'm getting a new display cabinet shortly to keep my Harrop collection in, they'll be apart from everything else in a safer place.

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Oh Jordan - just seen your message.

On the base my photo really doesn't do it justice, it's actually a really stunning thing that I think perfectly complements the piece.

None of the photos I could take could get it properly, but on that I must assure you of its quality.

SockEyeSalmon Posted: Nov 27th 2009

I've heard it on good authority, Seb, that the ANP lives well and modestly because he is 'grounded' and knows precicely where 'down' is - do you think he looks like the type of guy who'd be happy rattling about in a gold-plated mansion?

Nope, me neither...

You've heard of 'town twinning' ? I'd love for my office to be 'twinned' with his because it also has a lot of stuff ... including W&G, autographed pictures, 3 calendars - 1xbusiness, 1xliturgical and 1x & , two bookshelves ... etc.

Seb Moderator Posted: Nov 27th 2009

Yep - I'm sure that's true about him and his home.

But office twinning sounds a great idea! Mine is the same - quite literally overflowing with W&G stuff waiting to be reviewed!
