Hi guys, I came across a couple of animations today that I thought you might be interested in:

http://www.youtube.com/user/gallantandkeen

Instead of using clay or models, they use real objects and humans in their stop-motion animations. I thought it produced a simple, but effective animation that could be created on quite a small budget with very simple equipment - could be quite useful if you wanted to start animating but didn't have a lot of equipment.

What do you think?

Nice find, katie. They are very interesting and so different. Really well executed in my opinion.

I love Bitzer Posted: Apr 6th 2010

That's a good idea! Thanks for the interesting video, katie!

No problem, if I see any more interesting animations I'll make sure to post them on here :)

I see those commercials all the time on TV!

Ursrut Posted: Apr 6th 2010

Anyone see Doctor Who Confidentail?
Well you know the part where the doctor is looking around... yeah stop motion animation techniques used!

Gromits little bro Posted: Apr 6th 2010

I thought so when I saw it the first time... Wow. That episode was good and i really love the new style of, well.. everything.

@katie: Thank you, that'd be great! At the moment I'm searching the web a little bit how to make a stop motion animation best but I've never seen something like this before....
Aardman is using such steel skeletons to make the figures easily move. But do you know any other possibility to let the figures move around, but also by moving their legs and hands , if they don't have such a skeleton in it? Because if I have made them out of modelling clay, which most of my figures are made of, and I move them the clay breaks in parts or there are then rips in it!
Also I'm wondering a little bit how Nick Park made that in A Grand Day Out: Did he already have such a skeleton at this time or did he use something other?
Would be great if you can help me!
0:)

@ajmole: Really? I've never seen such a commercial before! Maybe it is because I don't watch TV very often, only when STS or W&G can be seen
;)

Great find Katie! I've seen lots of stop motion techniques in ads using real humans these days, I think it adds a certain thouch. :D

Clay Fighter Posted: Apr 7th 2010

Great! The first is completely made out of paper, isn't it?
And the second one is fantastic, I wonder how it was made! Without computers I think it couldn't have made....and it must have taken a very long time!
:)

The following is stop motion, but with two "person" you all know:

I just found it at YoutTube and it's very funny...;)

concon Posted: Apr 8th 2010

THE SECOND ONE IS... AMAZING!

crackingtoast Posted: Apr 8th 2010

Wow! Those are amazing. The Skateboarding one is very clever.
If anyof you like Coldplay,The video for Strawberry Swing has the lead singer,Chris Martin, doing a stop-motion thing on the pavement, which him inside chalk drawings. and it's not fake either,it's 100% real. it's really amazing.

I love Bitzer Posted: Apr 8th 2010

Sounds great but poorly I can't see it here, it only can be seen in special countries....

katie Aardman Staff Posted: Apr 8th 2010

Nice example CT - I'd not seen the Coldplay video before, the flying bit looks really cool!

@I love Bitzer music videos are often geo-filtered + blocked in certain countries that don't own the music rights, shame you can't see that one :(

I love Bitzer Posted: Apr 8th 2010

Oh, then I understnad what that message means, thank you katie! I often had that problem before but never knew why that is so!
Thanks for your help!
:)

ajmole Posted: Apr 8th 2010

@I love Bitzer: I think those commercials are only in the USA. ;)
