Hi I decided to make a parrot and i was wondering what everyone else thought of it, it took a while to make. Any constructive criticism is welcome. If people like it i might make my first ever good animation with it. :D

Please comment! :)

Clay Fighter Posted: May 8th 2010

wow, i like it!!
is he holding a treasure map?
I would really, really love an animation with him!!!
he looks so good and full!
and i love the colours!
does he have an armature?

Nathan M Posted: May 8th 2010

Thanks, Yes he is holding a treasure map! :)
No he doesnt have a armature :S but oh well.

I may write a storyline for a animation soon. (Maybe some more charectors are on the way also!)

Clay Fighter Posted: May 8th 2010

i didnt think he had one.... make sure he can stand by himself!!!
cool, maybe make the animation short and sweet! then maybe do some more longer ones after you get used to animating with him!!

I have done a test, Im not that used to doing animation but i really want to get used to it, Im going to keep trying to get better at it because i think that i have a really good charector here. the test isnt so good..... lol

thetopbun Posted: May 8th 2010

It does look like he is hitting himself! Sorry... You need to work on a smoother wave but also you want to have easing in and out when the hand gets to its extent (do you know what that means?)

Nathan M Posted: May 8th 2010

Thanks, When it came to the waving i cheated and used the same frames. But in the future i will take new ones because it just doesnt work.

Clay Fighter Posted: May 9th 2010

maybe perfect the walking a bit!!

Nathan M Posted: May 9th 2010

yh i need to prevect the walking but the legs arnt very good

i need to make them again but i dont know how, they currently have sticks in them.

iantimothy Posted: May 9th 2010

can i ask a question. what program do you use to animate. and i would try to keep the camera still.

Nathan M Posted: May 9th 2010

Movie maker

iantimothy Posted: May 9th 2010

I would try to get a program like stop motion pro, where you can take single frames.

Nathan M Posted: May 9th 2010

k how much is stop motion pro?

iantimothy Posted: May 9th 2010

i dunno, have a mac, let me check

Nathan M Posted: May 9th 2010

Thanks

Ursrut Posted: May 10th 2010

Nathan M you could also try monkeyjam or helium frog they are both free stop motion animation systems.#

Monkey Jam

Helium Frog
http://www.heliumfrog.net63.net/

Not as good as stopmotion pro but it helps

Clay Fighter Posted: May 10th 2010

cool!

KirstenW Aardman Staff Posted: May 10th 2010

Great model and animation Nathan, I especially like the colours you've used and the way you've blended them, cracking work! :)

Nathan M Posted: May 15th 2010

The peter the parrot movie has been finished and will be uploaded shortly.. its what ive been doing today

mmasonghi studios Posted: May 15th 2010

Great job Nathan

Clay Fighter Posted: May 15th 2010

GREAT!
Just a few things to consider!
Maybe stabalising your camera a little more? maybe you could tape it down on a book if you dont have a tripod?
and the lighting was changing a fair amount.
Also, maybe you could make the set a bit bigger?
and it was a little confusing at first when he was pulling the treasure chest out of the water, i didnt realise what it was until it was on land,
But i really liked the ducks, it gave it the effect of a real place, and gavce it some background noise!
also his tail is cool!!
:D

Nathan M Posted: May 16th 2010

Lol thanks, i will really consider doing them things. The treasure chest coming out of the water was hard because it was filmed as the treasure chest going in to the water and i chopped the chest up and i reversed the frames.:D

Clay Fighter Posted: May 16th 2010

oh..., in future try and do things in order, it may take longer, but it will look better!!:D

iantimothy Posted: May 16th 2010

gotta disagree with that one, sometimes things are easier and may look better if it is in reverse. Doesn't matter how you do it, just as long as the final product looks good.

Clay Fighter Posted: May 17th 2010

true in some cases, like beaver creek, but with something short like Peter the parrot which odesnt have great loads of editing he would be able to produce them faster, which is what i thought his aim was.
But something like a treasure chest would be easier doing it the right way around, dont you think

iantimothy Posted: May 17th 2010

hmmm. maybe, not if it was clay, what i would do would be make a treasure chest, make a mold, use the mold to make multiple versions and cut them in segments depending on the speed then shoot it in normal order. I have done this many times
The fish (BC1-4) insta-lodge pill (BC1) twigs jumping in water (BC2&4) The oar(BC3) the anchor(BC3) Riley(BC3) twigs getting out of water(BC4) and *******(BC5 'yet to be shot')

Clay Fighter Posted: May 18th 2010

oooh myserious!
