Record voices, SFX, foley?? I think we take so long because of post production. Make sure you add in all your SFX including foley such as footsteps, background ambience etc. Just take your time and don't rush. On average I only usually animate about 10 seconds maximum per day. I could do more but I choose not to as I need time off other wise it would look rushed. make sure you have annotated your storyboard well and have structured the story out in scenes (something I have been working on the past year). Don't forget clamp down everything which may be accidentally moved and use a secure tripod. Make sure the lights are clamped down also. Don't be afraid to redo scenes if you feel you can do better! I've shot Green Roots shots 4 or 5 times over, improving each time.

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 13th 2010

I haven't clamped down my scenerie that's why in my tests you might notice it moving. I'll get to work on that now!
I'll also need to work on getting some muffled bird noises for the backround.
Thank you everyone you've all been such a help for me!
:D

Clay Fighter Posted: Jul 13th 2010

maybe its the fact that people take a lot more time trying to get smooth effects for walking? whereas your characters seem to waddle because thats how they are designed?
im not sure really...

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 13th 2010

Yeah, the idea of waddling food just seems funny to me.

iantimothy Posted: Jul 13th 2010

well looks like vincent and I have exactly opposite advice when it comes to frame rates..... just different ways of going at things i guess. I think the only way to get some mighty good animation is to see what works best work up, work down, whatever... I mean if you wanted to you could start at 100 FPS.... but that isn't recomended.
:D

iantimothy Posted: Jul 13th 2010

Hah! Vincent, I have beaten you! I have had to shoot scenes over 8 times before... :D
Yes!!! secure everything down!!! Super glue and that tacky stuff to hang up posters.... those are your best friends.....
and it doesn't matter how good the animation is, if the story isn't good people won't watch it... and when your animating, just always think..... will other people understand what's going on.
and i definetely agree sound effects are extremely important. If you saw one of the Beaver Creeks before sound design and music it is not as good, and it is a totaly different film..... And when you are sound designing.... anything can be anything..... I use cardboard for a lot of stuff, styrofoam works well, plates and forks, towels, pens. just anything that makes a good sound....
to get the banjo clanking sounds during the Banjo Duel, we used one of my dads guitars, set it on a chair, and whacked it with a towel, it gave us the swoosh, and a twang....

well there is my speech for the day....

harryboy8080 Posted: Jul 13th 2010

I hate superglue Ian. It is my arch nemesis. Ever since it came flowing out of the bottle all over my hand...... you can see where this is going....
:D

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 14th 2010

Ian I found something interesting on Google.
"Beaver Creek Hidden Message in Halo 2" Is twigs by any chance secretly a cybrog? ;)

LOL Harryboy! I hope you didn't get your fingers stuck.

harryboy8080 Posted: Jul 14th 2010

I watched a halo secret message video and a scary face popped up. :-( I scared it away though. :D

iantimothy Posted: Jul 14th 2010

Have you ever gotten superglue on your clothes... well it burns, and hurts really bad... but what is worse is model railroad foliage, which i use for beaver creek, I was glueing it to the bottom of a tree, and I touched it... for like 5 seconds it just kinda was there and a little warm... then it instantly started to burn, it was probably the most painful thing I ever felt.... because it burned then dried, so I had to pull it off which made it worse.... it's all better now though.

harryboy8080 Posted: Jul 14th 2010

I know how you feel man, I know how you feel. :D

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 15th 2010

Harryboy is that the one with the satanic prayer?

I know how that feals ian. I was glueing my turf to a wooden board then touched it.

Clay Fighter Posted: Jul 15th 2010

I think you guys mean the Hot-Glue-Gun Super Glue? right?
Because superglue from a tube doesnt burn...

I have burn My wrosts with Hot glue Gun Super glue-stuff... We all know how much it hurts!!:D

iantimothy Posted: Jul 15th 2010

no.... super glue from a tube burns... but only when it touches fabric or something, read the label, it says not to touch it when it is on fabric, it didn't say anything about fake grass.

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 15th 2010

I did put some fabric down aswell. I didn't have enough grass so I used some old green fabric to fill in the gaps. But that was for the older set that got destroyed.

iantimothy Posted: Jul 15th 2010

yeah, just use whatever material you can find, the pine trees in beaver creek are christmas greenery, like the kind with the wire where you can make your own wreathes, I just molded into pine tree shapes.

Clay Fighter Posted: Jul 16th 2010

Oh, I must use different brands, it dont hurt me until its dried and i have to peel it off :O

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 16th 2010

Well, as Mr. Growbag would say Iantimothy...
"Mm, Clever."

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 16th 2010

Here's a lighting test frame.
Can anyone guess what I used for lighting?

A. 60 CD's reflecting on the set
B. 3 lamps
C. A mirror reflecting the light from my room

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 16th 2010

harryboy8080 Posted: Jul 16th 2010

Ummmmmmm A! Lol no........ C!

iantimothy Posted: Jul 16th 2010

I think it is B, One thing you need to make sure of is, if you use more than one light, and the scene is supposed to be outdoors, make sure you diffuse the other ones, because you will get shadows facin' different ways, which doesn't happ'n, you get one shadow, facing one way, and I see you have shadows, facing different ways, so you may want to try to control that a little bit, It can destroy the illusion of being outside.

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 16th 2010

The answer is.....C!

But thanks for the tip. I'll try and sort that out.

harryboy8080 Posted: Jul 23rd 2010

It's been a week...... will it be done soon :D How is it going? Please tell me you didn't lose all your models agian.... :-(

shaun the lamb Posted: Jul 25th 2010

I didn't.
It's going great.
Just thinking up some more storyline ideas!

harryboy8080 Posted: Aug 3rd 2010

Is it done yet?

shaun the lamb Posted: Aug 3rd 2010

Almost

shaun the lamb Posted: Aug 11th 2010

Food World will be delayed. My computer got hacked and I had 76 different viruses.

kldceltic Posted: Aug 11th 2010

get anti-virus software:O

poor stl:'(:-(:O:-|

iantimothy Posted: Aug 11th 2010

or a Mac :D

shaun the lamb Posted: Aug 12th 2010

I did have anti virus software.
0_o That's the weird thing..

Gromits little bro Posted: Aug 12th 2010

The only reason mac's don't have viruses is because they account for such a low percentage of users compared to pc's that hackers and virus 'developers' focus on pc's.

Sorry for that mini-rant. I'm slightly bitter towards Steve Jobs.

Sadface....

Clay Fighter Posted: Aug 12th 2010

STL and KLD, no anti-virus software can protect a computer from all virus's, new softwares and types of virus's are often made and the software developers have to wait until they release their next installent of the Anti-virus software to block the new virus's being created.
Which sucks!

shaun the lamb Posted: Aug 12th 2010

I know right?

They should all have Auto Updates when ever a new virus is made.

Gromits little bro Posted: Aug 12th 2010

But the thing is they don't know when a new one is made!! (and sorftware like McAfee and Norton all have update internet security definitions) some are so well encrypted that they are virtually undetectable.
Also they are hidden behind false identities. Take that fake ad on the New York Times site last Sept. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10351460-83.html
And if your pc was hacked, then your anti-virus software could have been disabled and then the 76 viruses entered it.

Geek fest.

shaun the lamb Posted: Aug 12th 2010

That's probably what happened GLB.

(Isn't CNET Wonderful?)

kldceltic Posted: Aug 12th 2010

i have the anti-virus on:)

Gromits little bro Posted: Aug 13th 2010

@stl, Hail cnet!!! HAIL HAIL!!! rofl <3

harryboy8080 Posted: Aug 23rd 2010
