Well i have been thinking about buying the plasticine set but i dont know if its good so if you have it please can you tell me all about it.

GromitW Posted: Aug 18th 2007

Well, if you mean Newplast! I have it and I can tell you that it smells really special, but nice! I bought about 20 packs, and when I oppened the first one I was surprised! In the beginning it is hard and it`s not so easy to work with it but after a few seconds it starts to be soft.
Actually, I don`t know so much more but I`m satisfied!

MARLOW NATHAN Posted: Apr 7th 2008

how long would you say it would take to make a really good model like the ones you made?

arnymate Posted: Apr 7th 2008

Cool model Modelmaker93, just like Aardmans!
If you plan on making a set fully out of plasticine be aware of the following things:
*Plasticine is easily squashed and merged so be careful
*it will flop after a while so rienforce it with wood or some other hard material,
*use newplast if your in the UK or Van Aken (US), Belgrave (australia)

thats about it

Kind regards,

Arnymate

Nofby Posted: Apr 8th 2008

The problem with plasticine sets, as Arnymate says, it can bend and flop over alot without rigid re-enforcement. When applied, it can get very heavy with the amount of clay against the set. Unless you have very thick corrugated cardboard that is screwed down to your set base the clay will force it to topple over. Wood is far better and will give you a MUCH easier life when you animating your puppet. When you are lighting up your set, the hot lights can damage the plasticine and cause it to go very soft and change shape.

A material like plaster over wood or wire mesh would work alot better, you can add better texture, paint it and it will hold up during shooting. You could also use papier mache with a final layer of plaster ( ultracal 30 works best) over it, for a light set material.
